President Cheryl Bouschor, CMA (AAMA), CPC
Hi, I'm Cheryl Bouschor and I'm a late bloomer! I went to college later, got married later, and had twin boys when I was 38. I'm a true representative of the sandwich generation, taking care of elderly parents and minor children simultaneously.
I'm proud to say that I put myself through school and have been a medical assistant since 1987. I became a CMA (AAMA) in 1989 and certified as a CPC in medical coding in 2011. I have been involved in Northwest Chapter since it was created and have been a board member of MSMA since 2004. I worked in family practice 11 years and have been in pulmonary and critical care/sleep for 19 years.
President Elect Cristle Weissmiller, CMA (AAMA), CHCO
I have been a CMA (AAMA) for over 10 years. I worked in a family practice office for seven years, including nearly two years as the office's Quality and Compliance Manager. I have also worked as Compliance Department Head for a bioscience company, and I am currently a compliance consultant. I am a Certified HIPAA Compliance Officer and have a Masters in Healthcare Administration and Informatics. I worked with MSMA BOD to start the Greater Kent County Chapter in 2012, and am currently serving as the chapter's Immediate Past President and Membership Chair. It has been a privilege to have served MSMA as a member or chair of most committees and as an officer holding various positions since 2014.
Secretary Kathy Stuut, CMA-A (AAMA)
I have been a Certified Medical Assistant-Administrative for over 30 years. I have worked in OB-GYN, Cardiology, and Rheumatology, mainly as an office manager. I have served on the MSMA Board for many years as an officer, committee chair, or committee member. I am a Past President of this organization and currently President of the Southwest Chapter.
Treasurer Cindy Harleton, CMA (AAMA)
Hello, my name is Cindy. I have been a medical assistant since 1983 and certified since 1986. I have been on the MSMA Board for 20+ years and served on the Executive Committee, including as a Past State President. It has been an honor and my pleasure to serve this organization.
Speaker of the House Christa Smith, CMA (AAMA)
My name is Christa Smith and I am your Speaker of the House. As many of you know, I have previously held this position three times. Other officer positions I have held are President and Immediate Past President. I have been a member of MSMA for 24 years, and part of the BOD for at least 10 years. I was first certified in 1994, working in a Neurosurgery office. Since then, I have changed offices and work in a Vascular and General Surgery practice as the Team Leader for the Medical Assistant Department and Surgery Scheduler. I have a deep passion for this organization. The learning, teaching, mentoring and fellowship we bring every 3-4 months is OUTSTANDING! I have also found some of my most cherished, life-long best friends. On a more personal note, I have been married for 17 years to Dan and we have two children, Gabe 15 and Matthew 7. These are my loves! Every day there is something new with these boys.
Vice Speaker Holly Griffith, CMA (AAMA)
I am excited to serve our remarkable society in the capacity of Vice Speaker. I have been a CMA (AAMA) for seven years. I am the office manager for an internal medicine and psychiatric doctor’s office. My passion is to teach, encourage, and share the importance of being a CMA (AAMA). I have been married for 33 years and we have five children, four of whom are adopted. We live in Clarkston and enjoy our cabin in Gaylord. As a manicurist eight years ago, I traveled to India. Due to an enormous amount of Indians wanting to see American doctors, I was called upon to help in the medical clinic in a little village. Realizing my true passion for helping others, I returned to the US and promptly applied to Baker College to first earn an Associates in Applied Science and later a Bachelors in Health Services. I have served on our state board as Chair of Ways and Means and the Minutes Review Committees, have served as a member on several other committees, and have a passion for locking arms with those who are as passionate as I am to serve.
Immediate Past President Leigh Newell, CMA (AAMA)
Hi, my name is Leigh. I have been a CMA (AAMA) for 23 years and have worked as a practitioner for family practice, OB/GYN, and internal medicine. I have been active on the MSMA Board of Directors since 1999, either as an officer, chair, or committee member.
